An art exhibition spotlighting the Anfal genocide and the role of the Peshmerga is set to launch in Italy. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the University of Garmian, the Garmian Civil Museum, and Italy's Museo del Territorio di Riccione (Riccione Territory Museum).
On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, a coordination meeting took place at the University of Garmian's Genocide Center involving representatives from the University of Bologna, the Riccione Museum, and the University of Garmian. Discussions focused on the exhibition's themes and coordinating the preparation of necessary written, photographic, and video documentation.
During the session, organizers issued an appeal to the public, urging anyone with relevant written records, documents, photographs, or video materials to contribute to the exhibition's success. This effort aims to further elevate the profile and international recognition of the Anfal case.
The exhibition is part of a larger project titled, "The 20th Century: A Long Era of Wars, Discrimination, and Persecution. Tracking the Memories." The program is financially supported by the Emilia-Romagna Region of Italy and organized in partnership with the Museo del Territorio di Riccione.
The cultural event will run in Italy for three months, from January to April 2026. Its central goal is to introduce both domestic and international visitors to the history and devastating impact of the Anfal campaigns.
Designed as a photographic and multimedia display, the exhibition will feature historical images, documentary footage, and a series of thematic panels. These resources will provide a comprehensive view of Iraqi Kurdistan, the crucial role of the Peshmerga, the distinct phases of the Anfal campaigns, vital eyewitness testimonies, archived documents, and contemporary endeavors to safeguard this critical cultural memory.
