As part of its ongoing commitment to international collaboration, the University of Garmian hosted a scientific workshop on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, titled “A Horizon for Strengthening Scientific and Academic Relations between the University of Garmian and the University of Bologna.” The event took place in Sherko Bekas Hall at the College of Basic Education and was organized by members of the Heritage Horizons Project.
The aim of the workshop was to present the outcomes of the Heritage Horizons Project, including the training and academic activities undertaken in Italy, and to explore new opportunities for joint academic and cultural initiatives with the University of Bologna.

Speakers underscored the importance of institutional collaboration and highlighted the impact of international experience on advancing academic excellence and preserving cultural heritage in the Garmian region.
Heritage Horizons is a joint project between the University of Garmian, the University of Bologna, the Directorate of Archaeology and Culture in Garmian, the Garmian Directorate of Tourism, and the Italian Mission for History and Archaeology in Kurdistan (MISAC). Spanning from October 2024 to May 2025, the project focuses on enhancing cultural heritage and promoting sustainable tourism in the region.
The initiative will culminate in an international scientific conference to be hosted by the University of Garmian, offering a platform for scholars and professionals to exchange ideas and strategies on safeguarding historical and cultural assets.
