In a significant step toward aligning academic outcomes with labor market demands, the University of Garmian’s Career Development Center (CDC) participated in a high-level workshop to draft a strategic roadmap for student employment.
On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the workshop titled "Education to Employment" was convened under the auspices of Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, and in coordination with the MEED Foundation. The University of Garmian was represented by Asst. Lect. Chnur Mahmud Fatah, Director of the Career Development Center.
Addressing Key Economic Challenges
The initiative serves as a direct response to the lack of coordination between academic institutions and the private sector in the Kurdistan Region. The strategic roadmap focuses on several critical objectives:
Reducing Unemployment: Creating sustainable job opportunities for youth and university graduates.
Developing the Local Workforce: Equipping students with the specific technical and soft skills required by the private sector to reduce reliance on foreign labor.
Fostering Mutual Understanding: Establishing a shared vision between universities, institutes, and private-sector employers.
A Roadmap for the Future
At the conclusion of the workshop, academic institutions and private-sector representatives reached a consensus on a comprehensive strategic plan. Moving forward, educational centers will operate in direct coordination with the market to produce a skilled and well-trained workforce. This integrated approach aims to drive regional economic growth while providing students with the professional security needed to secure employment immediately following graduation.
