International Conference on the Kurdistan Freedom Movement Concludes Successfully in Italy

The international scientific conference titled "The Kurdistan Freedom Movement at a Crossroads," co-organized by the University of Garmian and the University of Turin, has successfully concluded its proceedings.
Held on March 26–27, 2026, in Turin, Italy, the event convened a diverse group of Western and European academic experts alongside parliamentarians from Europe, Turkey, and Iraq. As a primary partner, the University of Garmian maintained an active and influential presence throughout the panels and discussions via virtual participation.
Virtual Delegation & Academic Contribution
The University of Garmian delegation, participating via video conference, was comprised of senior academic leadership and specialists:

  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Khalil (Vice President for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education)

  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Salar Mahmoud Hama-Salih (Director of International Academic Relations)

  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Aryan Rauf Aziz (Head of the Department of Political Systems and Public Policy)

  • Asst. Lect. Goran Hussein Ahmed (Head of the Department of Law)

Throughout the two-day summit—organized in collaboration with the University of Turin, the University of Rojava, and several international organizations—the team presented scientific perspectives on critical themes, including national history, ideological shifts, and political reconstruction processes.

Focus on Regional Peace and Security

A highlight of the university’s contribution was the research presentation by Asst. Lect. Goran Hussein Ahmed, titled: "Disarmament of Militia as an Obstacle for Peace in the Middle East"

The study provided a rigorous analysis of the legal and political hurdles impeding peace processes in the region, drawing significant interest from the international assembly.
