The University of Garmian has received approval from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to launch five new academic departments in the 2025–2026 academic year.
This milestone is part of ongoing efforts led by Professor Dr. Arass F. Zainal, University President, to expand academic offerings and enhance institutional growth.
The newly approved departments are:
General Sciences – College of Basic Education
Food and Nutrition Sciences – College of Science
Electronic Accounting
Urban Development and Planning
Political Systems and Public Policy
The proposal was developed by the Vice Presidency for Scientific and Higher Education Affairs and the Directorate of Quality Assurance, and submitted to the Ministry’s Quality Assurance and Accreditation Directorate.
Professor Zainal emphasized that the expansion will provide more opportunities for students in Garmian and the Kurdistan Region, aligning with labor market needs and regional development priorities.
The University extends its gratitude to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Director General of Quality Assurance, for their support.
Notably, this marks the first time in over six years that new departments have been added, a move expected to revitalize student enrollment and academic performance.
