On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, Professor Dr. Arass F. Zainal, President of the University of Garmian, presented an honorary award to Rasul L. Abdulrahman in recognition of his outstanding performance in the Huawei ICT Competition 2025. The award ceremony was held in the presence of members of the University Council.
Rasul, a fourth-year student in the Department of Computer Science, College of Science, and an active member of the Huawei Academy at the University of Garmian, proudly represented Iraq and the Middle East in the global finals of the Huawei ICT Competition held in China from May 20 to 24, 2025. Competing in the Cloud Track, which focused on Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and Big Data, he demonstrated exceptional skill in an intensive 8-hour practical exam and secured third place worldwide.
The competition featured 120 teams from 40 countries, all of whom advanced to the global stage following regional and national qualification rounds.
Previously, Rasul also claimed first place in the Huawei ICT Middle East and Central Asia Competition, held on December 18, 2024, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with the UNESCO Institute for Information Technology in Education (IITE).
During the ceremony, Professor Dr. Zainal extended his congratulations on behalf of the university leadership and commended Rasul’s dedication and academic excellence. He reaffirmed the University of Garmian’s ongoing commitment to supporting and empowering talented and active students across all disciplines.
