On Tuesday and Wednesday, May 27–28, 2025, the 5th International Scientific Conference of the University of Garmian, titled "Revitalizing Historical and Cultural Gems for Dynamic and Sustainable Tourism Growth" was successfully held on the university campus in collaboration with the university of Bologna and the Garmian Directorate of Archaeology and Culture.
The two-day event brought together 74 researchers from both inside and outside the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. A total of 33 scientific papers from 14 universities and academic institutions were presented across 11 thematic panels, addressing key issues related to the preservation of cultural heritage and its role in fostering sustainable tourism.
The conference concluded with a formal session attended by the president of the University of Garmian, Vice presidents, representatives from the University of Bologna, and officials from the fields of tourism and archaeology.
In the final session, Mr. Mabast A. Mohammed, a member of the Scientific Committee, delivered the official conference recommendations, emphasizing collaborative academic research, heritage preservation, and policy development to support dynamic tourism growth in the region.
