For the first time in its history, the University of Garmian’s Department of Law competed in the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, held February 14–17, 2026 in Erbil.

Supervised by Asst. Lect. Goran Hussein Ahmed, the student team simulated cases before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Competing entirely in English, the team demonstrated exceptional skill in both written legal briefs and oral advocacy.

The University of Garmian achieved a distinguished 5th place among all Iraqi universities. Out of 40 presenters from various public institutions, the team was recognized for its high-level performance, marking a significant milestone in preparing students for the global legal arena.
