In recognition of International Day of people with Disabilities on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, the College of Basic Education organized a scientific seminar titled: "Children with Special Needs: Scientific Support and Social Integration."

The session, held in Sherko Bekas Hall, was presented by Dr. Halmat Fayaq Darwesh (Ph.D. in Special Education).

The seminar presented current data on the prevalence and types of special needs, emphasizing the crucial need for effective development and integration of these children into both schools and the community.

Discussion centered on the importance of unified efforts across Education, Family, and University to provide comprehensive scientific and social support, thus enhancing educational and societal outcomes.

Dr. Darwesh announced a practical initiative by the University of Garmian: the establishment of a Department of Special Education in the upcoming academic year. This is intended to bolster the support system and supply specialized personnel to the field.
