On Monday, August 25, 2025, the University of Garmian held the first meeting for its project to document and classify the historical monuments of Kifri. The meeting was attended by the university presidency, the Governor of Kifri District, the Director of Archaeology and Culture of Kifri, and other officials.
The project aims to collect and document data on Kifri’s historical sites, reconstruct maps and sections of old houses, and record architectural details in a scientific manner.
According to the presidency, the project holds particular significance as it:
Preserves Kifri’s cultural and historical identity by documenting monuments that reflect the region’s heritage and ancient construction techniques.
Provides valuable scientific resources for researchers in culture and architectural history.
Establishes conservation guidelines to support future restoration efforts.
The meeting also decided to form a joint high committee between the University of Garmian and Sulaimani University to oversee the project.
