University of Garmian Hosts Scholarly Panels on Salahuddin Ayyubi

On Thursday, May 8, 2025, the University of Garmian organized a significant academic event titled “Salahuddin Ayyubi: History and Legacy”. The event featured two scholarly panels with the participation of historians, researchers, and university faculty.

First Panel

The first panel was moderated by Ali T. Latif and featured the following distinguished speakers:

  1. Professor Dr. Arass F. Zainal – President of the University of Garmian
    Presentation Title: Salahuddin Ayyubi: A National Glory Far from Sanctification

  2. Assistant Professor Dr. Ismail Shams – Lecturer at Allama Tabataba’i University, Tehran
    Presentation Title: Salahuddin Ayyubi Between Three Movements: Academic, Ideological, and National

  3. Dr. Yasin Taha – Professor at the University of Sulaimani
    Presentation Title: Salahuddin Ayyubi: Between Historical Narratives and Political Instrumentalization

Second Panel

Moderated by Dr. Sarhad M. Samin, the second panel included:

  1. Dr. Majid Salih – Advisor to the Kurdistan Parliament
    Presentation Title: Reflections on Salahuddin Ayyubi in Kurdish Journalism (1898–1948)

  2. Assistant Professor Dr. Zryan Haji – Lecturer at the University of Sulaimani
    Presentation Title: Salahuddin Ayyubi: A Kurdish Hero in Historical and Archaeological Perspective

The panels attracted a large audience, including faculty members, students, staff, and invited guests. The sessions were followed by a vibrant Q&A discussion with the panelists.

At the conclusion of the event, President Zainal presented awards of appreciation to the panelists in recognition of their scholarly contributions.
