On March 17, 2025, the Directorate of the Genocide Center at the University of Garmian held a ceremony to commemorate the Halabja chemical attack, attended by Professor Dr. Arass F. Zainal, President of the University, alongside vice presidents, deans, faculty, administrative officials, and students.
The event began with a welcoming address by Professor Dr. Omid B. Barzo, Director of the Genocide Center, who outlined the center’s contributions to genocide studies. Professor Dr. Arass F. Zainal emphasized the university’s role in preserving historical memory and ensuring that such tragedies serve as lessons for future generations.
A documentary screening was followed by a testimonial from Omid Hama Ali Rashid , who recounted his survival during the attack.
