1. Definition and Objectives

According to the university's approved organizational structure, the Directorate of Health and Safety is administratively affiliated with the Office of the University President. Its primary mission is to protect the lives of employees, faculty members, and students, as well as to safeguard the environment and the university's public assets. The directorate strives to provide a safe, risk-free, and healthy working and learning environment in accordance with international safety standards and guidelines.

2. Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this directorate are categorized into several key areas:

• Laboratory and Scientific Facility Safety:

  • Continuous monitoring of scientific laboratories to ensure the correct and safe handling of chemical and biological substances.

  • Providing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensuring its proper use by students and researchers.

  • Scientific and eco-friendly disposal of hazardous waste (chemical, biological, and medical).

• Civil Defense and Prevention:

  • Regular inspection of fire extinguishing systems, emergency exits, and alarm systems.

  • Establishing rapid response teams within campuses and colleges to handle any emergencies.

  • Designing and implementing building evacuation plans for disaster scenarios.

• Health and Environment:

  • Monitoring hygiene standards in cafeterias and student dormitories to ensure food safety.

  • Conducting health awareness campaigns and overseeing the maintenance of the university’s greenery and environmental cleanliness.

  • Coordinating with the Kalar General Directorate of Health to provide medical supplies and emergency first aid.

• Training and Awareness:

  • Organizing training courses for staff and students on fire safety and basic first aid.

  • Distributing and posting safety instructions and posters throughout halls and corridors.

• Administration and Follow-up:

  • Documenting all incidents and conducting investigations to determine causes and prevent recurrence.

  • Submitting weekly and monthly safety reports to the University Presidency and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
